What happens when you call or write
A member of the team will answer, listen to you and ask a few basic questions to understand the situation. From there, they will advise you and, if you wish, arrange the free first appointment with you: an information and assessment interview to work out what kind of help suits you best.
You do not need to be sure what treatment you need, nor does the person affected need to have decided to stop. Often the first step is taken by a family member, who can also receive guidance through the family support programme. When to ask for help
When substance use or a behaviour starts to cost you money, health or relationships, or when you try to stop and cannot, it is a good time to seek advice. This phone line is not an emergency service: if there is a risk to life, an overdose or poisoning, or a serious crisis, call 112, the European emergency number.

Can I call if it is a family member who has the problem?
Yes. Many enquiries come from family members who do not know how to help. We will advise you even if the person affected does not yet want treatment.
Is there a charge for the first consultation?
No. The first appointment is free and is used to assess the situation and advise you on the most suitable service.
